Organizational Context and Purpose

This role supports UNICEF’s Core Commitment for Children in Humanitarian Action. The Child Protection Officer (GBV) will assist in planning, implementing, monitoring, and coordinating gender-based violence (GBV) mitigation, prevention, and response activities. The position is based in the Atbara Field Office, covering the River Nile and Northern States, working closely with government and non-government partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programme Development and Planning:
    • Conduct research and analysis on political, social, and economic trends.
    • Prepare technical reports and inputs for programme development and planning.
    • Provide administrative support throughout programming processes, ensuring compliance with organizational processes.
  • Programme Management and Monitoring:
    • Collaborate with partners to address implementation issues and provide solutions.
    • Monitor and report on programme resources and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
    • Conduct regular field visits to monitor GBViE (Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies) programs, collect feedback, and document best practices.
  • Technical and Operational Support:
    • Provide technical support to government counterparts, NGOs, and other partners.
    • Participate in cluster planning processes and ensure GBV response activities are included.
    • Develop training materials, guidelines, and standard operating procedures related to GBViE.
  • Networking and Partnership Building:
    • Build and sustain partnerships with government counterparts and other stakeholders.
    • Participate in inter-agency meetings and contribute to joint programming initiatives.
    • Support fundraising efforts through resource mobilization materials and briefs.
  • Innovation and Capacity Building:
    • Capture and share lessons learned to enhance programme results.
    • Support capacity-building initiatives for GBV frontline workers and healthcare staff.
    • Work with GBV AoR members to strengthen monitoring of conflict-related sexual violence.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • University degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 2 years of professional experience in social development planning and management in GBV-related areas.
    • Experience in program development within the UN system or in conflict-affected contexts is advantageous.
  • Language Requirements:
    • Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
    • Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
