Job Title: Pharmacist (National Consultancy)
Location: Gaza Field Office – Deir al Balah, Palestine
Contract Duration: 3 months, with potential for renewal

Job Description

Due to the urgency to fill this role, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. This role will be contingent upon securing available funds, and we might use this vacancy to fill more than one post.

Scope of Role

Reports to: Health Officer
Staff Reporting to this Post: None
Role Dimensions: The oPt CO is a high complexity country with multi-member interest, an annual budget of around $40m, and 100+ staff. Currently, the program is experiencing growth in funding and complexity due to the war in Gaza.

Key Areas of Accountability

Dispensing:

  • Accurately dispense prescribed medications to patients at PHCC.
  • Prepare drugs for patients with valid prescription forms.
  • Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and handling of medications.
  • Provide patient instructions on medication usage, including name, dosage, duration of treatment, and expiry date.
  • Educate patients on medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and potential side effects.
  • Administer the first dose of treatment on the spot for all children under five or when prescribed per protocol.
  • Complete daily pharmacy tally and consumption tools in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Complete weekly consumption sheets and calculate the average monthly consumption.

Stock Management:

  • Establish the Stock Release Form for medicine supplies according to weekly consumption to ensure sufficient stock at PHCC level.
  • Ensure drugs and medical consumables are stored in an organized manner, fully identified, and accessible according to good storage practices.
  • Maintain optimal storage conditions (temperature, cleanliness, pest control) and report variations to the pharmacist officer.
  • Ensure all stock management tools are updated at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary working area.
  • Manage pharmaceutical waste.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered pharmacist technician or nurse qualified from a recognized center.

Experience and Skills:

Essential:

  • Experience in primary health care and general practice.
  • Experience in dispensing and handling of medicines.
  • Experience in stock management of medicines and good practices of storage and distribution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility, motivation, and maturity.
  • Good information-seeking skills and a proactive approach.
  • Concern for the wellbeing of children and interest in Child Rights.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.

  • Previous experience working within the Ministry of Health (MOH) or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) health facilities.
  • Knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working.
