The Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) is on the lookout for a passionate and dynamic individual to join its Board of Trustees in the role of HR & Legal Trustee. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established UK-based charity dedicated to reducing malnutrition globally. As an ENN Trustee, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the organization’s accountability, governance, and strategic direction, making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by malnutrition.
What exactly does the role entail? Well, let’s dive into the specifics:
Trustee Responsibilities:
- Strategy Oversight: Collaborate with the ENN Management Team to approve, review, and monitor progress against the organization’s strategy for 2024 – 25.
- Support and Challenge: Provide constructive support and challenge to the Management Team, ensuring accountability for ENN’s performance.
- Financial and Operational Viability: Ensure the financial and operational sustainability of ENN by approving budgets, accounts, and financial reports.
- Governance: Safeguard ENN’s values, policies, and reputation while actively contributing to the shaping and reviewing of key organizational policies.
- Legal Compliance: Act in compliance with ENN’s Articles of Association, Charity Law, Company Law, and relevant legislation, ensuring effective resource management and risk mitigation.
- HR and Legal Expertise: Offer specialized guidance on HR and legal matters, particularly in employment law, to inform strategic plans and decision-making.
- Data Protection and Health & Safety: Provide oversight on data protection and health & safety issues, ensuring compliance within the organization.
- Human Resource Management: Offer strategic oversight of ENN’s investment in human resources, advising on recruitment, performance review processes, and EDI strategies.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Professional Qualifications: CIPD Chartered membership, legal qualification, or equivalent experience, with an understanding of non-profit organizations.
- Legal and Governance Understanding: Familiarity with the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship, as well as the UK charity sector, governance, and relevant legislations.
- HR Expertise: Extensive background as a senior HR professional or legal practitioner, with a track record of success at both operational and strategic levels.
- Employment Law: Proficiency in employment law and implementing solutions within organizational contexts.
- Data Protection and Charity Legislation: Understanding of data protection, health & safety, and charity legislation, with the ability to adapt to changing regulations.
- Board Participation: Experience attending and contributing to Board or Commercial meetings, with effective teamwork and decision-making skills.

Membership and Operation of the Board:
- Trustees are appointed by Trust Members to provide a range of skills and expertise, with a term of office lasting four years.
- A commitment of approximately four pre-fixed board meetings per year, with additional sub-committee meetings and engagements as agreed upon.
Remuneration and Commitment:
- This is an unpaid, voluntary position, with reasonable expenses reimbursed in line with ENN’s policies.
- ENN encourages active participation and engagement from Trustees, with flexibility in time commitments and opportunities for career development.
