The Department:

The Corporate Accounting Department plays a pivotal role in Mercy Corps globally, providing crucial financial information to employees, management, donors, and regulators. Collaborating closely with the International Finance Department, Corporate Accounting consolidates financial information from over 40 countries and several subsidiaries monthly. In Europe, Mercy Corps Netherlands (MCNL), Mercy Corps Europe (MCE), and Mercy Corps Global (MCG) operate as one entity, sharing the same mission, vision, and core values.

The Position:

As the Corporate Accounting Manager, you will optimize the accounting and finance function at Mercy Corps Headquarters in Europe. Your role involves overseeing daily operations of the accounting team, managing the monthly closing process for consolidated accounts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and donor requirements in the Netherlands.

Essential Responsibilities:

Manage Accounting Operations:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting transactions, focusing on process improvement, internal controls, and customer service.
  • Coordinate data transfers between departments, including Resource Development, Payroll, Timekeeping, and International Finance.
  • Lead the monthly close process, approve journal entries, and align close calendars with reporting requirements.

Collaboration & Project Management:

  • Collaborate on high-impact, cross-functional projects with interdependent finance teams.
  • Review monthly account reconciliations and provide support for new process and system designs.
  • Document accounting processes and lead external financial audits and compliance efforts.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare annual financial reports and monthly management accounts.
  • Support responses to audit queries and ensure compliance with local financial reporting frameworks.
  • Provide financial information to external stakeholders and stay updated on relevant regulations and requirements.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Manage the MCNL Finance Officer.

Accountability:

Reports Directly To: EU Controller and MCNL Managing Director (dual management)
Works Directly With: All departments

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders: Mercy Corps team members are expected to support accountability efforts to program participants, community partners, and other stakeholders, adhering to international standards guiding relief and development work.

Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; ACCA (or equivalent) license preferred.
Experience: 5-7 years of financial management experience, with expertise in payroll accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
Skills: Proficiency in FRS 102, IFRS, and Dutch regulatory requirements; strong analytical and communication skills; fluency in English and Dutch required.

The position is based in the Netherlands, with no relocation allowance provided. Mercy Corps team members are expected to conduct themselves professionally and respect local laws, customs, and organization policies at all times.
