Role Overview
As the Government and Political Relations Adviser, you will play a key role in influencing change for girls’ rights and gender equality both globally and in the UK. This position is part of the newly established Policy, Campaigns, and Youth Unit, a dynamic team focused on policy, advocacy, campaigning, and youth engagement. Your role will involve building and managing strategic relationships with political and senior UK Government stakeholders to support Plan International UK’s programmes, influencing, and fundraising goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop Engagement Strategies: Create and implement strategies to engage key political and senior UK Government stakeholders.
- Facilitate Senior Engagement: Identify and manage opportunities for the CEO and senior staff to engage with high-level stakeholders.
- Direct Engagement: Actively engage with Parliamentary and senior Government stakeholders as part of advocacy and campaign efforts.
- Advocacy and Campaigning:
- Political Analysis: Provide high-quality political and stakeholder analysis to inform and shape advocacy, campaigns, and communication strategies.
- Support Campaigns: Work closely with the team to support the development and implementation of effective advocacy and campaigns strategies.
- Strategic Planning:
- Objective Alignment: Ensure that stakeholder engagement activities align with Plan International UK’s programme, influencing, and fundraising objectives.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues across different teams to integrate advocacy and stakeholder engagement into the broader organizational strategies.

Key Requirements
- Experience and Expertise:
- Proven experience in political engagement, stakeholder management, and advocacy.
- Strong understanding of the UK political landscape and government structures.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective engagement strategies.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to provide insightful political and stakeholder analysis.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Commitment to Child Protection:
- Understanding of and commitment to Plan International UK’s safeguarding policies.
- Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a check of the Children’s Barred List.
