Responsibilities:
1. Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with DPPA Divisions to identify compelling information and stories that effectively communicate the importance and impact of the Department’s work.
- Expand departmental promotional and outreach activities by establishing partnerships relevant to the organization.
- Draft complex material for newsletters, periodicals, reports, speeches, and statements.
- Provide advice and expertise on public affairs issues, methods, and approaches.
- Develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies and serve as a spokesperson and principal liaison to media organizations and other stakeholders.
- Prepare diverse information and communication products, including printed and audiovisual materials, media pitches, and social media messaging.
2. Evaluation and Reporting:
- Evaluate the results and impact of communication activities.
- Report on developments, trends, and attitudes regarding the UN.
3. Operational Support:
- Assist in the day-to-day operation of the unit, including coordinating substantive and administrative activities, interpreting and disseminating policy, providing procedural advice, handling queries, preparing budget submissions, establishing and/or coordinating training programs, and monitoring and evaluating results.
Competencies:
- Professionalism: Comprehensive knowledge of public information and communication, ability to analyze and integrate diverse information, handle sensitive situations diplomatically, deliver clear and concise written communications, conduct effective oral presentations, and incorporate gender perspectives.
- Communication: Clear and effective communication in speech and writing, attentive listening, interpretation of messages, fostering two-way communication, and sharing information openly.
- Planning & Organizing: Development of clear goals, prioritization of activities, effective resource allocation, adjustment of plans as necessary, monitoring of actions to meet objectives, and efficient time management.

Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of Seven Years Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in fields such as public information, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related areas. This experience should demonstrate a track record of increasing responsibility and achievement.
- Drafting and Editing: Candidates should have experience in drafting and editing content for publication, including written materials such as reports, articles, newsletters, and speeches. Proficiency in crafting clear, concise, and compelling written communications is essential.
- Thematic Communication Initiatives: Experience in developing and implementing communication initiatives or campaigns focused on themes related to peace and security, humanitarian affairs, or human rights is highly desirable. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
- Strategic Communications Support: Candidates should have experience providing support on strategic communications to senior officials or executives in a front office setting. This may include tasks such as advising on communication strategies, drafting speeches and statements, and managing media relations.
- Web Content and Multimedia Production: While not mandatory, experience working with web content management systems and multimedia production tools is considered advantageous. Proficiency in creating and managing digital content can enhance the candidate’s suitability for the role.

Languages:
